Mariners Breakdown, 3-2 win vs Chicago White Sox, 5/6/11

Mariners now 16-17.

Play of the Game: In the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs, Brendan Ryan hit a hard groundball to right field to score Adam Kennedy and win the game for the Mariners in walkoff fashion 3-2.

The Good: Felix was amazing again…the defensive play continued to sparkle, especially the eighth inning…I like how the M’s continue to come back from adversity and being behind to win.

The Bad: In one inning, with one out and a runner on first, a White Sox player laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jack Wilson forgot to cover first, and everyone was safe. That shouldve been an out, but wasn’t. A sacrifice fly moved the runner to third (should have been the last out), and a hit scored the run to make it 1-0 early for Chicago.

3 Stars: Brendan Ryan had a strong double early and had the walkoff hit to go 2-4 and continue to improve his offensive production on this homestand.

2 Stars: Felix Hernandez. 9 IP, 6 K’s, 2 ER, 109 pitches. Complete game. ‘Nuff said.

1 Star: Jack Cust had the first base hit to start the ninth inning with one out (he was lifted for pinch runner Adam Kennedy).

Opposing Team Player of the Game: Carlos Quentin launched a home run off Felix into left field to tie the game for the White Sox after the Mariners took the lead the inning earlier.

Prediction for next game: For Chicago, when it rains it pours. Seattle will win 4-3.
